5 tips before placing decorative wall stickers

Decorative stickers or wall vinyls are a simple, effective and inexpensive method of customizing and renovating any room in your home. Print a beautiful phrase on the mirror, a cartoon in the children's room, floral images on the walls of the living room or completely transform the tiles in the kitchen.

All this without having to paint or change tiles, making sure that the chosen image or word will be perfect. Wall stickers bring an original and very personal touch to the home, but they must be placed with great care. Otherwise, we run the risk of wrinkling, tearing, crooked or bubbles. If you want to install stickers on the walls of your house, take good note of the following tips for an impeccable result.

You put the vinyl on and then realize you would prefer it a little more to the right. Are you going to rip it off again and move it? Better not, because with this you could tear the paint off the wall, break or wrinkle the sticker and damage its adhesive layer.

To avoid this error, first check where you want to place it safely. To do this, you can stick it with masking tape or zeal depending on the material where you are going to place it. Walk away and check that he is in the position you want. Avoid porous walls, rough surfaces or areas close to heat sources, as this weakens the glue.

Decorative vinyls can be placed on practically any hard surface: wooden furniture, painted walls, tiles, glass... But you should always clean the area in question first.

Remove dust with a damp cloth in the case of furniture and painted walls, clean with a special product for glass, scrub the floor if they are tiles and clean the grease from the kitchen tiles well. This way it will stick better and it will not be rough.

Do not leave your vinyl wrinkled or rolled while you wait to apply it, as this will lose its shape or could be damaged. As soon as you buy or receive it, lay it flat on a flat surface without rubbing against anything that could break or bend it.

Before you begin to install the vinyl, mask the ends of the paper with masking tape. This ensures that it won't shift or twist as you peel it off the adhesive and stick it to the wall.

Once the previous steps have been completed, you must carefully peel off the paper, smoothing the sticker with a spatula, so that you gradually eliminate the wrinkles. Do it slowly, working your way from the center to the ends to get any air bubbles out.
