El Maldà continues to bet on the musical offer of emerging companies. From March 15 to April 7, the room will host 3 wishes, a new musical in Catalan by the company La Sinàptica. The work has the dramaturgy of Marc Lluís Fernández, the music of Carles Alarcón and, among its performers, the renowned Mercè Martínez.
3 desitjos tells the story of a young couple, Dani and Lara, whose lives change when he is diagnosed with a minority genetic variant of Alzheimer's. Lara becomes Dani's caretaker and little by little she has to adapt to this new situation. In a last ditch attempt to help him before she loses her memory, she decides to grant Dani his last three wishes.
Marc Lluís Fernández pays tribute to the people who adopt the position of caregivers when a loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer's. "Talking with the people around me, I have realized that Alzheimer's is everywhere, and in addition to bringing the disease closer to the public, I wanted to value what it means for caregivers," explains the playwright.
The composition and musical direction, by Carles Alarcón, charge the work with emotion so that the story reaches the viewer as much as possible. "Music is one more actor in the show -says Alarcón-. Just like the characters, music also evolves during the show".
The musical is directed by Pilar Capellades and choreographed by Oscar Reyes. It features performances by Mercè Martínez, who plays the doctor who diagnoses Dani's character, by Judit Malet, who plays Lara, and Marc Lluís Fernández, who, in addition to being in charge of the dramaturgy, also plays Dani.
Despite dealing with a subject as tough as Alzheimer's, the musical genre relaxes the tone by combining sad songs with happy ones. This contrast is also found in the characters, since, faced with the sadness of Dani and Lara's couple, the doctor "puts a point of humor and relaxation in the show," says Martínez.
3 desitjos will be on the bill from Tuesday to Saturday at 8:00 p.m. and on Sundays at 7:00 p.m. Tickets can now be purchased on the El Maldà website.
