145,000 cans of formula milk recalled due to possible cross-contamination with bacteria

145,000 cans of baby formula have been recalled due to possible cross-contamination with bacteria that could cause serious illness in infants who ingest them. Reckitt, which is the manufacturer of the products and works with the American brand Enfamil, has voluntarily recalled the cans that could be affected.

Possible cronobacter contamination affects two lots of Enfamil ProSobee Simply Plant-Based Infant Formula, but it is not known at this time that its intake caused adverse effects in infants. After learning the bad news, Enfamil has stopped counting on Reckitt as a supplier, reports Facua.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has warned that cronobacter infection in infants can be deadly. The bacterium is found naturally in soil, water, and other parts of the environment and can live in dry foods, such as powdered milk, herbal teas, starches, and baby formulas.

The symptoms of this poisoning are usually severe and can include malnutrition, irritability, seizures, hydrocephalus and developmental delay, explains Aesan. In addition, it can cause damage to the intestine, necrotizing enterocolitis, spread through the blood and cause septicemia, reaching other parts of the body, such as the brain, causing meningitis.

Consumers are advised to check that they do not have the recalled product in their homes. Specifically, it is the 12.9-ounce can of Enfamil ProSobee Powder with a UPC number of 300871214415; with a global lot number of ZL2HZF or ZL2HZZ; and with lot number 0670975 or 0670979 and expiration date of March 1, 2024.

Return can be made to where it was purchased for a full refund. For more information Reckit has made available to consumers the telephone number 1-800-479-0551 and the email at consumer.relations@rb.com.

This American brand is not very popular in supermarkets in Spain, but it can be purchased in online stores such as eBay or Amazon.
