10 tips to combat insomnia in the elderly (despite the heat)

Sleep worsens with age, making it more difficult to fall asleep, resting worse, and getting up much earlier than we would like. Added to this is a feeling of tiredness and sleepiness during the day that prevents us from feeling encouraged and energetic to face the day.

Older people sleep worse and are more vulnerable to sleep disorders, as their circadian mechanism loses efficiency. Physiological changes typical of aging reduce rest, suffering a lighter and poorer quality sleep. Added to this are certain diseases such as Alzheimer's or Parkinson's, restless legs syndrome, disorders such as anxiety or depression or taking certain medications, all of which lead to difficulties sleeping well.

Since the lack of rest is detrimental to health and threatens well-being, it is advisable to follow a series of recommendations to sleep better in summer.
