Umbrella highlights: the hair trend that will sweep this fall

Autumn is a season where look changes are at their peak. After summer, our hair usually needs a cleansing cut, a boost in hydration and, surely, a color refresher if your hair is dyed, bleached or highlighted. Not in vain, sun exposure, chlorine from the pool and sea salt wreak havoc on your hair, so it's time to go to the hairdresser to remedy it and look great.

When choosing the hair style that we will wear, there are those who are faithful to their usual bet because they know that it never fails them, while other people opt for new looks with which to add freshness and originality to their hair. And within this last spectrum, it is best to take a look at the hair trends that the new season offers us.

This fall, among the various hair trends, we find one that is committed to daring in all its splendor. Gone are subtle highlights like balayage or baby lights: now umbrella highlights are coming to the fore.

Traditionally, what highlights currents advocate is naturalness, with subtle effects that appear genuine. This is how very delicate and strategic applications are used with the brush, defending highlights that blend with the hair color in less pronounced contrasts, like an impeccable gradient.

But umbrella highlights opt for the complete opposite. What they pursue is a very marked contrast between two superimposed hair tones. The top layer of the mane shows off one color, while the bottom layer has a radically different one. Its name comes precisely from the simulation of an umbrella that opens and reveals the color of the lower layer. That is why these highlights look especially great when you do hairstyles such as semi-updos, pigtails and buns. Even in braids where the interspersed colors can be seen.

The trend is especially present in hair with a blonde tone at the top and a darker tone at the bottom. But they also give rise to playing with fantasy wick overlays. In addition, it is suitable for all types of hair: straight, wavy or curly.

As for lengths, the only cut in which umbrella highlights do not work is on short bob, bob or pixie-type hair. Apart from these, whether you wear a medium length hair at the height of the clavicle, or if you wear an XXL length, they will look great on you.

Among the virtues of umbrella highlights, it is worth noting that they are the most original and daring. Thanks to this, they rejuvenate and provide a very striking look. The level of maintenance will depend largely on the shades you opt for but, in general, they are not too demanding in terms of the need for recurring touch-ups. An extra plus point? They give a sensation of depth and volume even if you have little or very fine hair.
