'The Tourist' moves to Ireland for season two and maybe to Netflix too

A man woke up in a hospital in Australia after suffering an accident. He didn't remember anything about his past and his Northern Irish accent made it clear that this wasn't his land. He, too, didn't have time to stop and think too much or ask around: someone was on his trail to kill him. I am referring to The Tourist, the miniseries that HBO Max premiered in January 2022, and which finally has a continuation. The surprise, at least for the viewer, is that it could now be a Netflix series.

The content platform has acquired the rights to the series, which initially belonged to the BBC in the United Kingdom, to Stan in Australia and finally to HBO Max in the United States and other territories. Regarding the new episodes, however, HBO Max has disassociated itself from the production, with Netflix accessing the rights. Therefore, it is to be expected that the second season will arrive through this platform, although Netflix has not yet made a statement in Spain.

The brothers Jack and Harry Williams, creators of The Tourist, conceived a television road-movie, with elements of thriller and western, to showcase both Jamie Dornan (Belfast) as the anonymous man and Danielle MacDonald (Poker Face) as a pleasant agent of a police officer in the Australian desert who suddenly found himself in an impossible situation. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (Trapped) rounded out the main roles as the ruthless hitman who left corpses wherever he went.

One of the attractions of the second season is that, in addition to changing the platform, it will also change the setting: it will move the action to Ireland, where Dornan and Macdonald's characters will still find themselves fighting against his past (excuse the cryptic wording but , in case the reader does not know the first season, it is better to arrive without spoilers). What can be anticipated is that he will disappear and the police will ask a detective (Conor MacNeill) for help to find him.
