The tormenting judicial past in Brazil of the woman who denounced Cándido Conde-Pumpido

Lawyer Cándido Conde-Pumpido Varela, son of the president of the Constitutional Court, made national media headlines last weekend, when he was arrested on Friday for an alleged group sexual assault committed together with two other individuals.

A case that is not yet closed, but the criminal lawyer has been released without precautionary measures after the chief magistrate of Court number 44 of Madrid estimated that the recordings from the security cameras of Conde-Pumpido's home distort the version of the woman who has reported them for this alleged sexual assault.

According to what has emerged, the woman who has denounced the criminal lawyer and the other two men for the alleged group sexual assault would have had various problems with the justice system in Brazil, the country from which she is originally from. As reported by Vox Pópuli, the woman would have been accused and summoned to testify on almost thirty occasions, for crimes such as non-payment, crimes against road safety and even drug trafficking.

The complainant would have landed in Spain a few months ago, having had to appear in the Rio courts last September for non-payment of an invoice of just over 100 dollars issued by the Nova Esperaça Regional Forum of the district of the metropolitan region of Maringá.

According to the aforementioned media, the woman had run a textile business in her country that did not go well, and was also accused of non-payment along with her partner and victim of embargo. Additionally, she left unpaid medical bills at a hospital. Thus, she received almost thirty court summonses, the most serious being in June 2022, for drug trafficking.

Despite their history, none of them have been this serious or have been related to sexual assault. Nor with its alleged relationship with the practice of prostitution, for which Conde-Pumpido's lawyer, Ricardo Álvarez Osorio, has had some harsh words in statements to OndaCero. The lawyer criticized the publication of unverified information, but assures that, "if it is not, he has all the right looks."

As argued by the magistrate who released the detainees, in the images provided by Conde Pumpido's defense you can see different rooms of the chalet where the crime was allegedly committed in which one of the accused does not appear, in against the woman's version.

"There is no situation similar to that described by the accused," he argues, adding that the woman appears with Conde Pumpido, but without any situation that coincides with what was stated by the woman, who also did not present a report of injuries.
