The third of 'The Lincoln Lawyer' is underway and this is what is known

On the set of The Lincoln Lawyer in Los Angeles, the classic “action!” to start filming the third season. These are one of Netflix's key productions. It is accessible entertainment, has good audience figures and has a tight budget as it is a drama series. And what do we know about the third season?

The public by now knows that The Lincoln Lawyer adapts Michael Connelly's novels centered on defense attorney Mickey Haller. The first season was based on The Verdict, the second book in the legal series. The second took as a reference The fifth witness, the fourth installment. And, for the third season, Ted Humphrey will adapt The Gods of Guilt, the fifth book that the American writer dedicated to the lawyer.

When Mickey discovers that a murder victim had been a former client, a prostitute whom he believed he had rescued and put back on the right path, he knows he is indebted to the case. Haunted by the ghosts of his past, Haller has to work his butt off to solve a case that could bring him total redemption or prove his definitive guilt.

The synopsis of the novel fits with the outcome of the second season, where it was already hinted that this would be the case that would have to be dealt with: Mickey had to go to the West Hollywood morgue to see the body of a woman named Giselle Dallinger. There he realized that, in reality, she was Gloria Dayton, a prostitute who had been his client and that the main murder suspect is her client.

Ted Humphrey, who has run the series since David E. Kelley created it for television, this time has screenwriter Dailyn Rodriguez to share showrunner duties. And, as they have announced in a statement to Deadline, they will begin the season with a flashback: the one that will reveal how Mickey Haller became the man we know, “not only a brilliant criminal defense attorney but also a husband, a father and the man which ended up being.” It represents a deviation from the novels.

In the new season, the main acting muscle of the series is expected to return: Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Mickey Haller, Becki Newton as Lorna Crane, Jazz Raycole as Izzy Letts and Angus Sampson as Cisco. Yaya DaCosta, who played prosecutor Andy Freeman in the second season, will also return during the Trammell case, and Neve Campbell will return recurring as Maggie McPherson, Mickey's first wife with whom he is still in love.

Elliott Gould is expected to return as David Siegel, Mickey's mentor, Krista Warner as the daughter and Fiona Rene as Gloria Dayton.

The third season, which will consist of ten episodes, does not yet have a premiere date. What is practically guaranteed is that it will be released in 2024 and that it could even return in the summer as the second season: it is not the fiction with the most post-production needs on Netflix.

Of course, you will have to hurry. The second season was filmed between November 2022 and March 2023 and the first batch of episodes premiered in the catalog on July 6. The remaining five were included on August 3. So, compared to the previous year, The Lincoln Lawyer starts late, possibly marked by the writers' strike that prevented them from working from May to almost October.
