Antonio Díaz, better known as El Mago Pop, has become one of the most recognizable magic professionals in all of Spain. The illusionist has combined his live shows with multiple appearances on television shows, in which he has also delighted the public with his magic tricks.
Now, after several years performing in Spanish theatres, El Mago Pop makes the leap to the other side of the pond and opens a new show on Broadway, the mecca for musicals and plays worldwide. It will be on August 17 when Díaz kicks off Nothing is Impossible at the Branson Magic Theater, a building that the magician himself bought a month ago.
To whet your appetite before the big premiere, El Mago Pop has been invited to Today, the leading morning magazine on American television broadcast by NBC since 1952. From Rockefeller Square in New York, the illusionist was able to talk about their next show and, along the way, perform a new live trick.
"I'm really excited; being on Broadway is my dream and very few magicians have done their shows there, so it's a privilege to be one of them," he explained to the show's hosts before proceeding to perform the magic.
The trick has consisted of teleporting a series of people, chosen in a totally random way and without knowing what they were going to face. Following the instructions of the magician, some of them have entered one of the two showcases installed in the square and before the gaze of a large crowd.
Seconds later, the volunteers magically appeared in the second showcase to the astonishment of the presenters and the public. To increase the impression on the participants in the trick, they have remained blindfolded until after being teleported.
