The lawyer for Edwin Arrieta's family gives new details of Daniel Sancho's statement: ''Daniel's attitude has been defiant"

The fourth week of the trial against Daniel Sancho for the murder of Colombian surgeon Edwin Arrieta began this Tuesday with a last-minute change. And first thing in the morning, Rodolfo Sancho's son arrived at the Koh Samui Provincial Court in a van with tinted windows to testify before the judge.

The accused's statement lasted almost four hours and in it, Sancho responded to questions from his lawyer and the defense related to everything that happened on August 2 at the hotel on the island of Ko Pha Ngan. However, the actor's son will continue with his testimony this coming May 1 to answer the questions of the Prosecutor's Office and the co-accusation.

After the expected statement of the Spanish chef, the lawyer for Edwin Arrieta's family, Juan Gonzalo Ospina, revealed new details of his testimony on the program Así es la vida on Tuesday afternoon. ''He has never shown any regrets about him. The family was firmly convinced that he would not do it today and that is what happened. During the questions from his defense, who led the interrogation today, he had enough time to say that what happened should not have happened and he still has not shown any forgiveness towards the family,' he claimed. .

Regarding whether it could be a guideline from the defense to convince the judge that it was not a premeditated murder, the lawyer confessed that "it was good to empathize with the pain of a family that is totally helpless." ''If he were my client, I would have recommended asking for forgiveness and always trying to minimize the damage,'' he asserted.

The lawyer assured that Daniel Sancho's attitude had been "challenging" at all times. ''On the days that I have been present in the courtroom, his attitude has been defiant and possibly compatible with that line of denial of responsibility that has been seen again today in his statement,'' Ospina stated.

Furthermore, the lawyer for Edwin Arrieta's family once again expressed his discomfort with the presence of the Spanish vice consul in the trial on the Telecinco program. ''Before sending this letter we consulted and spoke with different members of the diplomatic corps and all of them showed their surprise. A consul is there to advise or recommend a legal direction, to accompany the first days of the trial, but they had never seen that kind of international observer in the concept of... I still don't know what and also paid by all the Spaniards,' he declared.
