María Teresa Campos turned 82 last Sunday, June 18. A very special date, which in the past she would have celebrated in style, surrounded by family and friends of hers in her fabulous mansion in Molino de la Hoz, in Las Rozas (Madrid); but nevertheless she had to live in her new house, rented and somewhat more modest, and celebrate it only with her daughters, Terelu Campos and Carmen Borrego; hers, her son-in-law, José Carlos Bernal, and her granddaughter, Alejandra Rubio.
A very relaxed celebration, in which everyone for a moment forgot the tensions of recent times and where they united for it. A reflection of this union was the image that Carmen Borrego shared during the celebration on her Instagram account, where the hands of both sisters appeared next to their mother's, accompanied by a declaration of intent: "Congratulations mom, now only you and we only want your well-being. I love you so much !!!".
An image that respects the privacy of the mythical presenter of spaces such as Día a día, just like her daughters Sean, but that also reveals the delicate state of health that the matriarch of the Campos clan is going through, who at 82 is not going through his best moments. María Teresa suffers from a neurological disease, which would be causing a "significant cognitive deterioration" in the presenter, as confirmed by her daughter, Terelu Campos.
María Teresa Campos has been retired from the media and public life for almost two years. "Unfortunately, at this time, she is no longer what she was," Terelu explained, recounting that her sister tries to protect her from the "outside world."
Even so, Terelu is blunt in his protection of her: "I think there are things that do not stop belonging to our privacy with her. My mother deserves everything. I mean it from the heart."
A woman who refuses to retire and continues to think about her return to television, as her daughters have been commenting in different statements in Sálvame. However, her television stage is already far away. "I have worked a lot with her, when I go to her house it is rare the day that she does not start to do a rundown with me, and I no longer know what to invent, she continues to have her professional world and she tells me we put this here, this there "said Carmen Borrego.
Of course, as her daughter stated, her recovery is not possible, and the presenter's deterioration is being faster than her family would like.
"We have to speak naturally. There are many families who suffer what we are suffering and we are lucky to have her and that she knows us. I don't know what will happen tomorrow and when she doesn't know us, but right now we have her... For us it is our priority, that she be well and calm".
