The Francos sell their mother's residence in Madrid, converted into luxury apartments

There are a handful of luxury buildings in Madrid and, apparently, there is a real fight between investors interested in high-end apartments wanting to get a piece of land in the capital. This is the reason why the Franco family sold what was his mother's house, Carmen Franco, in record time.

This is the promotion of the legendary building at number 8 of Hermanos Bécquer; a total of seven luxury homes of more than 600 square meters in a million-dollar operation that demonstrates why the place was the jewel in the inheritance of the heirs of Francisco Franco's daughter.

As Vanitatis reports, the operation could have exceeded 70 million euros in total. A figure that is close to what Franco's grandchildren had in mind, since after the death of his mother in 2019 they tried to sell the entire property - whose total constructed area exceeds 5,000 square meters - for about 50 million euros. . However, upon not receiving a suitable offer, they decided to opt for another route: renewal.

The building turned a century in 2022, and its owners took advantage of the anniversary to carry out a complete renovation. The property was transformed into luxury apartments - with exquisite decoration by interior designer Belén Domecq, from Grupo Cosmic -, ready to move into within a few months, becoming the most anticipated development for experts in the sector. Said and done, as confirmed by the aforementioned portal, although each home would exceed 10 million euros, all the units are practically sold.

Super luxury apartments and corresponding amenities, since the promotion has all the amenities: swimming pool, spa, gym area or parking, among other things.

This building was, after the Pazo de Meirás, the great real estate jewel of the Franco heritage; in addition to the headquarters of the main companies that the dictator's seven grandchildren inherited from his mother after his death.

Some homes acquired, according to the sources consulted, by "mostly Spanish" buyers from the national business elite.

The family has kept a low profile and stayed away from the press, but they continue with their businesses in the capital. In 2023, the Francos made it clear that they had another point in the capital in mind: Velázquez Street, in the heart of the Salamanca neighborhood and the nerve center of the so-called real estate "golden mile."

As reported by the newspaper El Confidencial, the brothers Francisco de Borja and Jaime Ardid Martínez-Bordiú, children of Mariola Martínez-Bordiú and Rafael Ardid; They announced the construction of a luxury development in the building that occupies number 53. At the beginning of this year, the building had to be vacant to begin work on its renovation.
