Although viewers often think that everything on television is very scheduled, on some occasions unpredictable and surprising situations occur. This is the case of a tense moment lived this Friday on 8TV, the television channel with regional coverage in Catalonia. The leader of Ciudadanos en Catalunya, Carlos Carrizosa, was interviewed on the program La Gran Contradicció by the journalist Marta Polo Pujol. A meeting that would end up sealed by the scuffle that both staged nothing more and nothing less than the language.
During the interview, the communicator asked the Ciudadanos politician why he was answering in Spanish if she was addressing him in Catalan. According to Carrizosa, the interviewee should have the right to speak in the language that seems good to him. "I wanted to highlight in the program the great contradiction that is that if a person answers in Spanish on a Catalan station, they are asked why," the guest expressed to the space.
Some statements with which the journalist seemed to disagree. Polo, on her side, was of the opinion that the normal thing would be that if she refers to him in Catalan, the question is answered in the same language. "The great contradiction would not be that in a program like this the person is interviewed in the language that he freely decides?" The politician responded, making his position clear.
"I ask you why it is strange that if we can understand each other in Catalan and we have all the programming in that language, you do not answer me like that. But, obviously, you can always answer in the language you want," the presenter said then. "What seems strange to me is that in a bilingual society and with a majority, in addition, speaking Spanish, on a Catalan television the interviewee is asked why they answered in Spanish, because if they answered in Catalan no one would ask them ", sentenced the candidate.
The conversation between the politician and the presenter has opened a debate in the tweet that the chain shared about the moment. "I don't know why a program in Catalan invites a man who is against Catalan," says one user. "He has two newscasts left, it doesn't matter if he answers in Catalan or in Spanish," expressed another tweeter. "Then they tell you that if you answer in Catalan when they ask you in Spanish you are rude", can be seen in another of the comments.
