Sarah Ferguson, 64, ex-wife of Prince Andrew, the king's brother; has already been discharged after announcing last January that she suffered from malignant melanoma, a skin cancer, discovered after she underwent reconstructive surgery after being diagnosed and treated for an early form of breast cancer in the summer 2023.
It was her eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, who confirmed that her mother has been given the “all clear” about the cancer she suffers from. The princess, 35, gave an unprecedented interview to the This Morning program on the British channel ITV, in which she gave the expected news about the state of her mother's health.
“She is a phenomenal icon. As a mother, she has been amazing. She has been through a lot and her sense of purpose and resilience really keeps me going,” Princess Beatrice stated. When asked how her mother was doing, the princess assured her that she was “very well” and that she had already “all recovered.”
“At 64 years old, she is thriving, she has been through a lot, but now she is regaining her courage,” insisted the princess, who wanted to take advantage of the occasion to draw attention to the importance of undergoing routine check-ups to detect any health problems.
“We are simply reminded that when a parent or individual has a health problem, they really need to get the necessary checks done as soon as possible,” she declared, ensuring that both she and her sister, Princess Eugenie, were “very proud” of her for take these measures.
“Hopefully, we can be there to support each other when someone goes through a health problem. There is nothing more important than family,” the princess ended by saying, alluding in a way to the support that family members are giving each other.
Sarah Ferguson's recovery brings a ray of hope to the British royal house, which still has two of its members undergoing treatment for their illnesses. King Charles III and his daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, announced that they had been diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of the year, after undergoing two surgical procedures at The London Clinic.
King Charles III has already resumed his official commitments. On May 1 he returned to work, visiting a cancer treatment center in London to highlight the importance of early detection.
Kate Middleton, for her part, continues her preventive chemotherapy treatment, as announced on March 22. A process that seems to be giving results, judging by the words of her husband, who at an official event last Tuesday told a supporter that his wife and his children are “fine.”
