Kevin Spacey is ready to put the past behind him and resume his career as a front-line actor. The double Oscar winner for The Usual Suspects (1995) and American Beauty (1999) has been forcibly withdrawn from the world of cinema since, in 2017, the first accusations of sexual abuse began. First, by the also actor Anthony Rapp -who accused him of having abused him when he was still a minor, between 2001 and 2004-, after other men, in 2005, 2008 and 2012. Three new complaints, in this case from the United Kingdom, they arrived for events allegedly that occurred between 2005 and 2013.
Six years in which he has only worried about his legal circumstances, hoping to be able to resume his work. Thus, he gave his first interview in all this time to the ZEITmagazin portal, where he assured that there were people "prepared to hire him" if he managed to get away unscathed from the charges against him in London.
For Spacey, the blame for his ruined professional image undoubtedly rests with the media, which has taken it upon himself to turn him "into a monster." Luckily, according to the actor, the optimism and affection that he still feels among his audience is what keeps him going day by day.
"We live in a time in which many people are afraid because if they defend me, they will be cancelled," said the actor, about his career, "But I know that there are people who are ready to hire me right now when I am cleared of these charges I'm charged with in London. The moment that happens, they are prepared to move on."
Projects that could arrive in the near future, if his nightmare finally ends. At the moment, he is dedicated to writing scripts for short films, but he assures that he will not write about his experience after being accused of sexual abuse.
Some accusations that have almost been able to with him, as the actor himself confirms in the interview, for which he still does not see himself prepared to talk about it - and he does not know if one day he will be.
"I'm still processing it," he says. Even so, he is convinced that "everything happens for a reason", and he does not intend to be defeated "even if that reason is not immediately seen or things do not resolve instantly".
For Spacey, this process does not mean the end, but the beginning of a new phase. "I feel like I'm at the beginning of my career, when nobody wanted me. Just because I've been on the bench for a season, I'm not going to stop working," he insists, "I'm not going to rust. I'm ready."
