Five days. That was the time that Pedro Sánchez set to consider whether or not he will continue as head of the Government. An issue that keeps all of Spain in suspense and that, as expected, is the talk of the town in all corners and programs of the media.
There are no clues or speculations, but the leaders of the Socialist Party have shown their support for the party leader. Of course, there are those who call his attitude "victimist" and "overreacted." This is how the journalist Juan del Val described it in the middle of the debate in La Roca, being very critical of the Chief Executive.
For the writer, it makes no sense for Sánchez to consider leaving the presidency of the Government for this reason, since it has "no judicial track record" and is probably going to be archived as it is probably based on fake news according to various information.
"I would understand the announcement of a resignation, but not that of a reflection," pointed out the writer, who could not understand that Sánchez would publicly ask for time to reflect on whether or not he continues to be president of the Government.
The journalist also took the opportunity to throw a small jab at the attitude of some of the leaders of the Socialist Party in the demonstration that was organized that Sunday afternoon at the doors of the headquarters on Ferraz Street. "I lack a playwright or a psychologist because of the absolute overacting," said the author of Bocabesada.
"Of course, I respect anyone who wants to demonstrate for or against Sánchez, but we are talking about something that has to do with sentiment, but it seems to me that the image of many PSOE leaders is of going to the theater," he insisted.
The President of the Government took a few days to reflect on his situation after learning of the opening of a judicial investigation into his wife, Begoña, accused of influence peddling. Sánchez sent a letter to citizens through X (former Twitter), in which he announced that he was canceling his agenda to decide his future.
"I am aware that they are denouncing Begoña not because she has done something illegal, they know there is no case, but because she is my wife," he wrote. At this point, the question I legitimately ask myself is, is all this worth it?
"This attack is unprecedented, it is so serious and so gross that I need to stop and reflect with my wife," he concluded. A complaint that was not new, since Sánchez had previously commented that his wife has not had a very good time in recent years.
"He has suffered, but he has handled it with great integrity," he revealed to Jordi Évole a few weeks ago.
