How to prepare your feet for sandal season

Easter week brought warm temperatures that have already whetted our appetite for the summer season. With the arrival of good weather, we adapt our care and routines focused on leaving more skin exposed. This not only appeals to protect our face from the sun and remove shorts and tank tops from the back of the closet, but the feet are also wanting to be uncovered.

After several months wrapped in thick socks and sheltered by closed shoes, it is time to wear sandals with which the feet are exposed. Probably during the winter you have not given them the attention they deserve, leaving aside certain essential care so that they look healthy and beautiful.

Don't worry, you're in time for a series of intensive pampering with which to prepare your feet, those great forgotten ones, to take them out for a walk and show them off without complexes. Take good note!

First of all, it is convenient to make an analysis of the seriousness of the carelessness of your feet. Maybe you just have a little dry skin, but maybe corns, calluses and bunions have proliferated. Given the latter, it is best to go to a podiatrist to evaluate your particular needs to remedy any problem.

Apart from this, there are a few cares that you should carry out at home. To begin with, try not to wash your feet with very cold water, nor too hot, since they dry out and irritate the skin. After the shower, be sure to dry your feet well, focusing on the nail area and between the fingers. Otherwise, excess moisture could attract fungus. If you have areas with calluses or hardness, you should file them down, either with a specific file or a pumice stone.

After showering, apply a special moisturizing foot cream. Do it daily if they are very dry or once a week for maintenance. Likewise, once a week it is advisable to exfoliate them, in order to eliminate dead cells. Whenever you are going to expose your feet to the sun, remember to apply sun protection as on the rest of the body.

You should also pay attention to the pedicure. File the nails, apply a hardener and, if you wish, nail polish in a trendy color. A cuticle oil will put the final cherry on top.

When choosing sandals, try not to have too thin a sole. Look for some with the heel slightly raised so as not to force the footprint too much. It is also advisable that they hold the foot correctly. Failure to do so can cause pain and increase the risk of trips, slips and falls.

Finally, if you suffer from bad smell and sweaty feet, you can use a specific deodorant for them. You will find them in cream, spray or powder formats, to be applied directly to the feet or shoes.
