One of the best-known Latin heroes is Zorro, that masked man who fights for justice in 19th century California, when the territory still belonged to Mexico and not the United States. Antonio Banderas has a lot to do with the film adaptation released in 1998 and which made Catherine Zeta Jones known. It has therefore been a quarter of a century since the last great popular revival of the character created in 1919 by Johnston McCulley. It's time to reintroduce Diego de la Vega to a new generation with Miguel Bernardeau on January 25 in Spain, and six days before in the United States and Latin America.
The Elite actor will have the responsibility of carrying a major intellectual property in Zorro, especially since it is associated with Banderas' stardom in Hollywood. Son of Ana Duato and producer Miguel Ángel Bernardeau (Cuéntame), involved in the controversy of the Nummaria case, he had his platform to fame in the adolescent drama away from the mantle of his family.
After emancipating himself from Élite, he appeared in an authorial comedy like Todo lo otro, the German science fiction thriller 1899 or La Última, which he starred with the singer Aitana Ocaña, then his partner at the beginning of the recording and who announced their breakup after promoting the series. Therefore, as the Latin swordsman, he faces his greatest challenge: to demonstrate that he can lead a project of these characteristics.
From Prime Video, Amazon's content platform, they warn that Zorro "represents an exciting adventure full of action, bravery and the spirit of a new vigilante in a constantly changing society." Diego de la Vega, who is chosen as the new Zorro, has the sole purpose of “unmasking the murderers of his father and bringing them to justice.” It features the Mexican actress and model Renata Notni, who began in the acting industry with work in soap operas such as Code Postal or Un Hook to the Heart, as the female lead.
And who completes the cast? A very diverse cast that ranges from Rodolfo Sancho (The Ministry of Time), who is in a delicate moment personally due to the murder committed by his son Daniel Sancho in Thailand, to Cristo Fernández (Ted Lasso), Luis Tosar (Cell 211), Elia Galera (El Cid), Dalia Xiuhcoatl (Black Moon), Andrés Almeida (Bard), Cuauhtli Jiménez (Soldiers or Zombies), Francisco Reyes (30 coins) or Cecilia Suárez (The House of Flowers).
The Galician screenwriter Carlos Portela, with experience in series such as Velvet, Velvet Collection, Bajo Suspicion or Auga Seca, is responsible for updating the mythical character. And, for now, to get an idea of what the result will be like, we have to settle for these three images.
