Feather duvet: this is how you should wash it so it does not get damaged

With the arrival of spring we welcome the good weather. This implies a wardrobe change and also cleaning the house thoroughly to start the new season with an impeccable home. Within this cleaning, the maintenance of textiles that do not need to go through the washing machine as frequently as clothes enters.

It's time to remove the down comforter from the bed, put it away until fall and replace it with a light bedspread before the final uncovering on hot summer nights. The feather or down duvet is warm and light, perfect for keeping us warm when it gets cold.

If you want to extend its useful life, it should be taken care of properly. This goes through a good cleaning and drying it properly afterwards. If you use it with its corresponding cover, it will be enough to wash it once a year, ideally before storing it. For a professional result, taking it to the dry cleaner is always a good option. However, you can also wash it at home more economically and effectively if you follow the tips below.

Drying the down duvet is a more important and delicate process than washing if you want an optimal result. It is best to do it outdoors, as extended as possible and where it does not get direct exposure to the sun. Every so often, try to shake it and change its position, so that the filling is evenly distributed.

If you don't have space to hang it, you can put it in the dryer. Now, again you must check that you have enough space. A good trick is to put two or three tennis balls in the dryer, which will hit the comforter and thus its filling will be more padded. Make sure that the temperature of the dryer is not too hot for the comforter.

Do not store it until it is completely dry, because if moisture remains, fungi, bacteria and a bad smell could proliferate. Keep it in its case, safe from dust and other dirt, or in a plastic one where it fits well folded. Try not to put weight on it.
