David Corenswet gives life to a new 'Superman'

Over the last few years, superhero movies have gone from being one of the main economic drivers of cinema to going through a phase of fatigue. Marvel's MCU has been affected by the saturation of films and series at the critical level, while at DC the constant reboots have also taken their toll. The last of them was caused by the involvement of Dwayne Johnson in Black Adam, as well as the departure of Henry Cavill as Superman.

Even so, the American multimedia company will try again, with the so-called Chapter 1 of its umpteenth cinematic universe. At the moment, two films are known from this unpublished stage, The Batman – Part II and Superman: Legacy. The second of them, directed by former Marvel member James Gunn, will be released on July 11, 2025 and already has a first image. In it, you can see actor David Corenswet wearing the suit.

It is an image with a touch of comedy, characteristic of Gunn's superhero productions. Clark Kent is preparing his uniform boots in his home, while the city of Metropolis can be seen under attack behind the window. The suit maintains the classic line of the previous films, except that this time Gunn has chosen to once again place the iconic red trunks outside the set.

Legacy is part of Chapter 1 – Gods and Monsters, where up to ten different titles have been revealed, despite the fact that the details provided by DC are minimal. The sequel to The Batman should be the second installment of this new stage, premiering a few months after Superman, on October 3, 2025. Likewise, these productions should not affect the one that JJ Abrams is preparing about the alien hero outside of the set.

Another film scheduled for the new DC Chapter 1 would be dedicated to The Authority, a group of antiheroes with a violent component who would function as a dark counterpart to the Justice League. Also in preparation is The Brave and The Bold, in which James Gunn wants to explore the relationship between Bruce Wayne and his son Damian, the current Robin, based on the comics created by Grant Morrison and Tom King.

The series section has projects dedicated to Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Booster Gold and Amanda Waller. The animation will also take center stage with Creature Commandos, where Frankenstein, a werewolf, a vampire and a gorgon must face the Nazis during World War II. Supergirl and Swamp Thing will have their own movies, with the former based on Tom King's comics and the latter delving into the horror genre.
