At the tender age of 12, the award-winning performer experienced bullying firsthand. “One day everything turned around and they started bullying me,” Yuste said, detailing how her classmates, who at first seemed like her friends, became her executioners.
As she has described it, the situation became unsustainable when her own classmates began to harass her in especially cruel ways, even burning photos of her. “They wrote things on my desk, they burned photos of me, they called my house at around three in the morning to mess with me,” she said.
This series of events completely isolated her from her peers and seriously affected her emotional health. Furthermore, Yuste has regretted the lack of attention she received at that time. “I didn't receive support from the school and that was terrible. This lack of institutional support only worsened her situation, forcing her to make the decision to leave school.
