Carla Quílez, the talent of an emerging actress

She has just turned 15, and has already demonstrated her talent as an actress with a single film, La maternal . Last September, Carla Quílez from Barcelona won the Silver Shell for best female performance in San Sebastián and the prize for new actress at the Gaudí.

On Sunday he began his second project, a series of which he cannot give details, but anticipates that he will have a main role that has nothing to do with the one he played in La maternal and will keep him busy for six months between Asturias (the first four weeks ) and Barcelona. He will have to combine filming with his third-year ESO studies, which he is studying at a high school in the Guinardó neighborhood with the help of a private teacher.

Carla has a chat with La Vanguardia hours before traveling to Asturias. As a prize for winning the Gaudí, Quílez has become the ambassador of La Roca Village for the whole of this year. “I'm not very into fashion, but I like choosing looks and being aware of what's in fashion,” says Carla Quílez. I would define my style as urban. I like oversize clothes because they are more comfortable for dancing”.

Her great passion is dancing, which she began at the age of 6 with the hope of becoming a hip hop dancer accompanying reggaeton singers or in musicals on stage: “Dancing is my way of expressing myself. I feel free and if I've had a bad day, when I dance I forget everything and it's like it heals me. It's my comfort zone."

She created her Instagram account a little over 2 years ago, to post her dances and that's where the casting team for La maternal, Pilar Palomero's second film, discovered her. "It was something unexpected and I took it with great enthusiasm." Her success has made her a celebrity but she affirms that she continues to be “the same Carla from the neighborhood and from the institute, close and natural, although I know that now I have a certain responsibility. People ask me, but more out of curiosity than out of interest, because it shocks them that a girl they've known forever now works as an actress and is experiencing all this."

Carla has attended many galas, has won awards, has walked many red carpets and has met many stars: “I loved meeting Carmen Maura. He was chatting with her and gave me very good advice. She gave me a very companion feeling. He told me to be sure of what I was getting into because it is a very complicated race with many ups and downs, but if it really is what I like, then I should go for it, and if I can spend as much time as possible next to my mother, well, even better”, reveals Carla Quílez.

At the moment her mother is the one who accompanies her everywhere and dances with her when she cannot attend her dance classes. “She and my family tell me to keep my feet on the ground and I hope so. My family helps me to continue with my life and also having the interpretation at my side”.

Carla herself controls her Instagram where she has more than 26,000 followers. “It's something I started and I'd like to carry on as long as she can,” she says. Over time, she has learned to relativize negative criticism: "There was a time when I collapsed due to some attacks on my dance, it was before I was an actress but now I look after myself and if people don't like it... ”

The money she has earned with her first job as an actress has been invested in orthodontic treatment: "It was my great wall to tear down because in La Maternity my teeth look bad, it is something hereditary and when I verified that I could pay for it myself without my family having to invest the money, so I did it, because I know that if I want to dedicate myself to this, then the image marks”.

At the moment, the most immediate future of Carla Quílez is this new filming that has just started and more details will be revealed in about a month from now. Also finish Compulsory Secondary Education in a year and then "well, we'll see, because it depends on what situation you are in at that moment," she says.
