Candela Peña will be Rosario Porto in a Netflix series about 'The Asunta case'

After being analyzed in current affairs programs and having become a documentary series, the murder of Asunta Basterra Porto will become a fictional series on Netflix. A photo of Candela Peña as Rosario Porto, the victim's mother, confirms the project, which begins the pre-production phase.

Behind El caso Asunta is Bambú Producciones, the same production company that signed the Atresplayer documentary series entitled What the truth hides: Caso Asunta. "During the research process for the documentary, we collected a lot of material that we could not finally include and that will be in the series," explained Ramón Campos, executive producer of the new true crime and co-founder of the production company.

It is worth remembering the reason for the interest in Asunta's murder. On September 22, 2013, the body of a twelve-year-old girl, who had disappeared the day before, was found on a forest track in the municipality of the Galician town of Teo. She was the daughter of the journalist Alfonso Basterra and the lawyer Rosario Porto, who had adopted her in China. And, despite being a priori victims of the crime, the authorities soon suspected the couple, with the woman being arrested on September 24 and the man the next day.

The filming of El caso asunta will begin shortly in Galicia with Candela Peña and Tristán Ulloa in the shoes of those guilty of murder. "I am happy to meet Tristán Ulloa again after Fariña and to receive Candela Peña at Bambú, whose work I have been a fan of for many years," explained the producer, whom Netflix trusted when they landed in Spain: Bambú Producciones was the one behind from Las chicas del cable, the first original Spanish series on the platform, and from other series such as Alta Mar and Jaguar.

With this project, the drift of Netflix Spain when it comes to squeezing the most media cases of the Iberian black chronicle is clear. The premiere of El cuerpo en llamas is scheduled for this year, the miniseries that will cover the so-called Crime of the Urban Police with Úrsula Corberó and Javier Gutiérrez in the main roles.
