Borja Prado leaves Mediaset after a year and a half as president

Borja Prado has decided to leave the presidency of Mediaset, ending his year and a half term at the head of the audiovisual group. According to sources close to the process, consulted by 'El Economista', Prado has completed a stage and his departure was perceived to be imminent, despite attempts to retain him by the Mediaset management.

Mediaset's management leadership had been mired in an internal war for months, highlighting the differences between Borja Prado and the CEOs, Alessandro Salem and Massimo Musolino. These discrepancies were manifested publicly on several occasions, such as when there was talk of the possible termination of Jorge Javier Vázquez's contract, something that the network denied.

Prado, initially assigned to assume support and collaboration tasks in the information programs, was relegated from his executive functions in June of last year, leaving him only with institutional responsibilities. The internal war intensified, and in May of this year, rumors arose about his departure due to demands to limit himself to an institutional role.

Prado's departure was due to his lack of harmony with the CEO, Alejandro Salem, who removed him from the decision-making core and relegated him to a role of institutional representation. Although Prado aspired to influence the editorial line, his participation in Mediaset's decisions was minimal, generating tensions in the second stage of 2022.

Recent weeks have seen speculation about Prado's moves to launch an offer for Unidad Editorial, although within the publishing company of 'El Mundo', 'Marca' and 'Expansión' it has not been taken seriously. Now, it remains to be seen if Prado will find some accommodation on the Board of Media for Europe, the parent company of Mediaset España, or if he will permanently leave the company.
