Rafa Nadal has become the center of all tennis attention in recent weeks. After a long-term injury, the tennis player from Manacor announced his return to the courts throughout 2024, one of the first competitions in which he set foot on land being the Conde de Godó Trophy. The joy lasted two rounds, after the Australian Álex de Miñaur defeated him in two sets, 7-5 and 6-1.
The trip to the center of the Iberian Peninsula presented a new opportunity for Nadal on his return to clay: the Mutua Madrid Open. On this occasion, the Mallorcan was able to take revenge on Miñaur himself in the second round, before facing the Argentine Pedro Cachín this Monday. The result ended in favor of the local hero, and allowed a large unit of Spanish personalities who witnessed the match live to celebrate.
David Broncano, Alejandro Sanz and Raúl González Blanco have been spotted at the Caja Mágica showing their support for the tennis player and enjoying the day. The presenter of La Resistencia is a well-known racket sport fan, a follower of Roger Federer and in charge of presenting a live program in this same venue, as a promotion before the first Davis Cup organized by Kosmos Group, Gerard Piqué's company.
For their part, both the singer and the former captain of Real Madrid and Schalke 04 are regular spectators of Nadal when he competes on Spanish soil. On this occasion, they have been able to witness the comeback of the Manacorí, who with a result of 6-1, 6-7 and 6-3; keeps his hopes alive by qualifying for the round of 16. A situation that the public present at the Caja Mágica has celebrated effusively.
The veteran tennis player had the opportunity in previous months to speak with Vanity Fair magazine about different aspects of his life. One of them was the possibility of participating in the Paris Olympic Games, despite leaving the question open. “2024 could be my last year, I haven't decided 100%, but it looks good, I sense that there aren't many events left for me to play,” he commented.
He also had the opportunity to express himself about the contract signed with Saudi Arabia as a tennis ambassador in the country: “I don't need the money they pay me at all, it's not going to change my life. I have not signed a super contract, like other fellow athletes, but one to promote tennis and try to achieve my goals: a personal challenge, and improve people's lives through sport."
