Zero privacy: Modern cars can collect your sexual activity or your medical data

Modern cars are a real threat to our privacy. The Mozilla Foundation declares this after carrying out a study in which 25 brands have been analyzed, including Tesla, Nissan, Renault, Toyota and Volkswagen.

According to Mozilla's analysis, some cars could collect the sexual activity of their owners, as well as their immigration status or medical data. Something most chilling.

Mozilla has dedicated more than 600 hours to investigate the practices of these car brands in dealing with the manipulation of sensitive information, yielding worrying data.

The Foundation has highlighted a most relevant fact: they could not verify whether some of the brands analyzed complied with their minimum security standards, such as the encryption of data in transit and at rest, security updates or the use of strong passwords to remote authentication.

According to the study, the most dangerous thing about this type of car is its ability to use its sensors, cameras and other systems to collect personal information from the driver.

After analyzing the 25 brands, the study concludes that the worst would be Tesla, after turning on all the privacy alarms included in the analysis criteria. Likewise, Nissan could collect and share its users' "sexual activity, genetic and health diagnostic information," among other types of sensitive data.

Only the Dacia and Renault brands offer their users the option to delete their data, so Mozilla has launched a petition for the public to ask the automakers to stop their mass data collection programs.
