The countdown begins for the start of the rental campaign. As of April 11, Spaniards will be able to access the draft and submit their declaration online. Taxpayers have until June 30 to settle accounts with the Treasury. Those who forget or submit it after the deadline will have to face a sanction, so it is convenient to remember the key dates.

Until May 5, it will not be possible to make the statement by phone and those who want to do it in person will have to wait until June. However, to file it online or through the Tax Agency app, you don't have to wait that long. But... what is needed to be able to carry out the procedure from the mobile or the computer?

To access the draft, taxpayers need an electronic ID, be registered in the Cl@ve PIN system or have a reference number, they explain in the free income tax return guide published by the financial comparator HelpMyCash.com . These are the three options given by the Administration to identify yourself in the electronic office of the Tax Agency.

It seems easy. However, accessing the draft becomes a headache every year for many taxpayers. The problem is that not everyone has a digital certificate or is registered with Cl@ve and to obtain the reference number, which would be the third alternative, it is necessary to recover a box from the previous year's declaration.

To obtain the reference number, all you have to do is enter the Tax Agency website, request the number and fill out a form. The code will appear on the screen when finished. But to carry out this simple procedure, the taxpayer has to enter the amount of box 505 of the 2021 return (the one that was filed last year).

This box corresponds to the general taxable base subject to tax and can be found in three places: in last year's draft, in the statement if a copy was kept, or in the entry or return document, as stated in the tax guide. There is an exception. People who did not submit their tax return last year and therefore do not have a 505 box can obtain their reference number much more easily. They only have to indicate the IBAN of an account that they are the holder of. This also applies to taxpayers who last year received a result of zero in box 505.

In the event that it is impossible to obtain the reference number and you do not want to go to a Tax Agency office, the other alternative is to register with the Cl@ve service. The advantage of this system is that it allows you to forget about the reference numbers and the boxes of previous income. How is discharge carried out?
