Volvo EX30, the Swedish brand's assault on the compact segment of electric SUVs

A benchmark in terms of safety, Volvo also aspires to become an example to follow in terms of sustainable and connected mobility. Its range of electrics grows with the imminent arrival of the EX30, a model for the premium B-SUV segment.

The Swedish brand has started the reservation period for the model, whose first units will arrive at the end of 2023, with prices starting at 36,770 euros. In other words, it will be possible to enjoy a fully electric premium SUV for a cost similar to that of an equivalent internal combustion vehicle.

With a length of 423 cm, a height of 1.54 cm and a width of 1.83 cm, the new EX30 embodies all Volvo design values. It features a wide wheelbase, combined with large wheels and overhangs. On its front it is easy to deduce its electric status, due to its closed grill and headlights that stand out for the digital interpretation of Thor's hammer.

To adapt to the needs of each customer, the Swedish brand offers three engine options and two different types of batteries. The Single Motor option combines a basic 51 kW battery with a 272 hp motor that generates 344 km of WLTP range. The combined consumption is 16.7 kW/100 km.

The Single Motor Extended Range option opts for a 69 kW battery that increases autonomy to 480 km, maintaining the same power of 272 CV. The approved consumption of this version, undoubtedly the most suitable for traveling, is 15.7 kW/100 km.

The highest performance variant, called Twin Motor, has two engines, all-wheel drive, and a power of 428 hp. In this case, the WLTP autonomy is 460 km. It is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and its approved consumption is 16.3 kW/100 km.

Another of the virtues announced for the EX30 is the speed of loading. The Twin Motor version has a charging capacity of up to 153 kW, compared to 134 kW for the standard variant. Consequently, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80% in just 25 minutes. From the central screen it is possible to adjust the amperage, the desired charge level and the moment to start it.

Safety, a fundamental chapter in any Volvo, reaches extraordinary heights. As a novelty, it includes a safety function designed for bicycles that helps prevent accidents caused by the sudden opening of the vehicle's doors, alerting the user of the circumstance.

The interior is available in four distinct cabins, each with its own personality, always with plenty of storage options and a choice of five ambient lighting themes.

The user experience is based on a single screen, with Google built in and the latest version of Volvo's infotainment system. We have worked closely with technology partners such as Google, Apple and Qualcomm to offer the best possible user experience.

The EX30 also includes a digital key function that is compatible with a wide range of phones. A specific app allows you to manage parking location, door closing, air conditioning activation, etc.

Next year it will be the turn of a new version, the Cross Country variant, intended for customers who appreciate the adventurous look. It will have higher ground clearance, 19-inch black wheels, and a choice of 18-inch wheels. It will also feature skid plates and special black panels on the bumpers.
