Vodafone Spain's turnover in the third quarter of its fiscal year stood at 974 million euros, which represents an increase of 0.2% compared to the same period of the previous year, as reported by the company this Monday.

The company has turned its strategy towards greater commercial aggressiveness once the British parent company has sold 100% of the activity to the fund of the same nationality, Zegona. An operation that was announced on October 31 and that already has the approval of the European and Spanish competition authorities, but is pending authorization from the Government before the end of March.

Service income continues to decline, but on the path of improvement seen in recent quarters. Specifically, in the third quarter they stood at 848 million euros, which represents 1.1%, below the same period of the previous year, mitigating the falls of 3% recorded in the first quarter and 2.7% in the second .

The boost in billing was linked to service revenue and higher revenue from the sale of terminals during the third quarter.

Service revenues improved 1.5 percentage points compared to the previous quarter due to growth in business digital services and better management of the contract customer base, partially offset by lower premium calling revenues due to regulation and prepaid .

Commercial results continued to show the competitiveness of the market. In the third quarter, the mobile contract customer base increased by 29,000, to 14 million due to commercial acquisition actions focused on terminals during the Black Friday and Christmas campaign and the offer of convergent rates with TV.

Fixed broadband customers fell by 24,000 to 2.8 million, and the television customer base fell by 18,000 to 1.4 million.

The base of active lines of the Internet of Things (IoT) increased by 429,181 new lines, reaching 6.57 million and leading this segment in Spain.

On the other hand, Lowi's contract mobile customer base remained stable at 1.7 million customers due to greater pressure from ultra-low cost, although it began to improve in December and January with the new commercial offer.

“Vodafone has strengthened itself as a digital service provider. The base of active lines of the Internet of Things reached 6.57 million, leading this segment in Spain," the company has assured, which it explains is the result of the diversification strategy of IoT products that the operator has launched in recent years in sectors such as security and connected alarms, banking through payment methods, logistics operators, connected fleets, renewable energies, agriculture, waste management or comprehensive water management.

In collaboration with the EOI (School of Industrial Organization), Vodafone continued to promote the training program for Digital Generation SMEs managers in Andalusia. Furthermore, together with the Antequera city council and the AMAyA agency of the Junta de Andalucía, it carried out a pilot for the early detection of forest fires, a solution that, through sensors, identifies with artificial intelligence the particles that are produced in the first minutes. combustion.

In December, Vodafone Spain deployed a new extension of the 2Africa fiber optic cable, the largest submarine cable system in the world, to the Canary Islands to connect them with the Iberian Peninsula.

Likewise, the operator carried out the first 5G pilot in the new 26GHz millimeter band to test its commercial use with smartphones. In tests, the operator achieved download speeds of over 2Gbps and upload speeds of over 430Mbps, respectively, on its commercial network.

It also performed the first tests of RAN Reduced Capability data on a European network. These tests have evaluated the potential rise of low-power, low-bandwidth connected devices, from the enterprise IoT sector to consumer applications.
