Vodafone Spain appoints Mário Vaz as new CEO

Vodafone Spain has appointed the Portuguese Mário Vaz as its new CEO. The manager will take over the controls on April 1. He has extensive experience within the firm, which he joined in 1992, holding the position of CEO of the Portuguese subsidiary since 2012.

"I am looking forward to boosting the company's growth," Vaz assessed in a statement, where he recognized "the talent of its professionals" and its reputable and pioneering brand." The replacement comes two months after the resignation of his predecessor, Colman Deegan.

"Under his leadership as CEO, Vodafone Portugal has successfully made the transition from mobile telephony to convergence," the company says. As signs of this stage, they cite being "at the forefront of innovation", and a growth in market share and profitability.

Vaz has a degree in Law from the University of Lisbon. He began his professional career in sales in the IT and consumer electronics sector, including the Spanish company ELBE. At Vodafone Portugal, he managed the company business, the consumer unit and the board of directors.

The Portuguese will continue to report to Serpil Timuray, in charge of the Vodafone European Cluster. "He is an exceptional leader with a consistent track record of serving our clients, as well as growing the business, creating shareholder value, developing internal talent and contributing to society," Timuray said.
