This is the ultramodern caravan with electric self-propulsion

Today, there is no doubt that electric mobility is reaching absolutely all areas, including mobile homes. Although alternatives such as campers or even electric-powered motorhomes are beginning to be seen (some already available and others still in development), the truth is that the vehicle that stars in this article draws attention for differentiating itself from most options.

This is the L1, a really interesting caravan for various reasons. It is developed by the Lightship firm, a new brand founded by two former Tesla employees dedicated respectively to battery engineering, on the one hand, and to product and financial management, on the other. The result has been a caravan with an electric self-propulsion system.

And what is achieved with this system? Let's remember that, being a caravan, you need a car to tow it. And herein lies the advantage. The point is that the L1 is able to achieve, moving by itself, reduce to the maximum the consumption of fuel or electric charge of the car that drags it. According to the manufacturer, in this way it is achieved that the towed car registers a very low additional consumption, close to zero.

To this we must add a modern exterior design that does not go unnoticed. The novelty of Lightship offers two different appearances depending on whether we are traveling or if we are in the camping area. When she is devouring kilometers, her height is reduced considerably in order to be practically flush with the car that tows her.

This generates a much more optimized aerodynamics than if the caravan had its conventional height, which would generate lower efficiency and higher consumption. Upon reaching your destination and placing the caravan in camping mode, the height increases considerably with the push of a button that starts an extendable system.

Do not overlook the huge glass surfaces of L1, which offer extraordinary interior light, as well as fantastic views of the surroundings. Inside the vehicle there is a huge, mostly open-plan space that can accommodate up to six occupants, depending on the layout chosen for the cabin.

This technology-packed mobile home provides a spacious kitchen, a full bathroom with a toilet, shower and sink, as well as multiple storage spaces. In the upper zone there is an extensive surface of solar panels that become main energy receivers. And it is that all the vehicle systems work with electricity.

In total, up to 3 kW of solar energy can be processed and stored in an 80 kWh battery. Another innovative technological detail is that, if you do not plan to use all the stored electricity, it is possible to plug the car that tows it into the caravan (if it is electrified) and thus use the recreational vehicle as a portable charger.

The price of the Lightship L1 starts at around 110,000 euros. If you are interested in knowing it in greater detail, you can take a look at the video that accompanies this article.
