The Munich shoe company expands its business into textiles after breaking sales records

Munich will no longer be a company focused only on sports shoes and accessories. The Catalan company, owner of the X shoes, is expanding its business and will enter fully into fashion textiles with a men's collection. Xavier Berneda, co-owner of the firm, explains that this is a strategic decision, which will mean a turning point for this family business founded in 1939. "Casual fashion or streetwear is here to stay, suits are used less and less and we are at the center of this phenomenon”, says Berneda.

The step forward has involved the expansion of its design center in Barcelona, at 22@, which now has around fifteen professionals. Also a reformulation of the stores, which will be progressive, to incorporate new spaces for displaying garments and fitting rooms, as well as new investments in products. After the men's collection, which will be in stores from February 2024, the forecast is to also launch a women's and children's line.

Munich opens this new line of business without travel companions. “We face our growth alone, with lungs”, Berneda points out. The company –he continues– has healthy accounts, no debt, and income that has increased by 40% in the last year. This significant increase has led them to break their billing record for the second consecutive year, with 74.3 million euros in 2022.

“We have grown in all segments and in all markets,” says the co-owner from Munich. The opening of new stores -29 own establishments in total-, the consolidation of the paddle tennis lines, exports and a greater market share in Spain explain this increase.

Only in Spain, Munich has billed 44.2 million euros in 2022, with a 35% advance in sales of fashion footwear. As for the paddle tennis category, it has closed the year with a turnover of almost 2.8 million euros, increasing sales by 52% compared to the previous year and 150,000 shoes sold throughout the year. Futsal, field hockey and 11-a-side football – it is the official brand of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, supplying the entire refereeing team for La Liga competitions – complete its segment in the sport category.

For this 2023, the company is preparing new store openings and will also focus on consolidating its largest international markets.
