The chemical and plastic sectors turn towards sustainability at Expoquimia and Equiplast

The Expoquimia and Equiplast professional fairs reach their twentieth edition this week in top form. The professional meeting of the chemical and plastic industry, respectively, will be held together again at the Gran Via de Fira de Barcelona venue in l'Hospitalet until Friday. With 560 exhibitors and more than 1,500 companies represented, the organization hopes to attract 20,000 visitors, a volume that has not been seen since 2017 since these shows are triennial and in 2021 they could barely hold a small pandemic version.

The focus in this edition of the two shows is directed to hydrogen -one of the great hopes for many associated sectors, although it is still in an initial stage-, the circular economy, digitization and technology transfer. All of this is seen as levers to shift towards a more sustainable future for both industries, with less polluting ways to produce and recycle.

In this sense, in the show you can see solutions such as a product very similar to plastic, but of vegetable origin, which is used to manufacture single-use utensils that dissolve in water without any type of toxicity. In this way, it is also intended to "respond to current challenges such as food, mobility or renewable energy", according to Carles Navarro, president of the organizing committee of Equiplast and general director of Basf.
