The arrival of Microsoft confirms the attractiveness of Aragon for large investors

The announcement of the arrival of Microsoft to the Aragonese community has put the territory in all the economic centers of attraction. A confirmation that confirms the potential that the community has to attract large investments. That is precisely one of the transversal policies set by the current Government of Aragon and this is made clear by its president, Jorge Azcón, who opens the doors “to whoever wants to invest in Aragon. They have their doors open.” To this end, the Executive emphasizes the facilities and benefits that the Community provides: “It is a commitment that we will maintain and an idea that has to be clear. In Aragon, investors have a red carpet to create wealth and employment,” he says.

To achieve the arrival of large investments, the Executive works to value the characteristics of the territory and that they are “differential. Not only do we have talent, we also have the necessary means from the point of view of energy, territory, natural resources and location so that investors have in Aragon their best development scenario for the future,” lists the president. . Some characteristics that the territory is beginning to take advantage of. This was made clear with the announcement just two weeks ago of the installation of a new Data Center by the North American multinational Microsoft in the Community. A project in which the territory competed in a blind process with other possible locations.

Microsoft's investment could add 264 million euros to the regional Gross Domestic Product and will contribute to the creation of more than 2,000 jobs until 2030. For the Government of Aragon the announcement is important for the arrival itself, but also for the so-called " tractor effect”. This is what the second vice president and Minister of Economy, Industry and Employment of the Government, Mar Vaquero, believes: “We have the obligation to ensure that the arrival of companies to Aragon does not stop at just that. We must generate knowledge and take advantage of it so that it directly affects the well-being of the Aragonese, who want to have opportunities, employment and the best possible future,” she says. Opportunities that multiply as another multinational, Amazon Web Services, is already installed in the territory, which inaugurated its three data centers in Villanueva de Gállego, Huesca and El Burgo de Ebro a year ago and also works with so-called cloud technology. . Both names are making the Community a reference in the ICT sector, but the Aragonese economy is strong in many other fields such as automotive, logistics, agri-food or biotechnology.

In all of them there are many possibilities due to the power demonstrated by the companies that are in the territory and that also attract talent and wealth. This is the case of the automotive industry. In Figueruelas (Zaragoza), Stellantis has the most productive plant in Spain and the Community is working on the arrival of the Spanish battery gigafactory that this company will put in the Iberian Peninsula. A strategic project in which the Government of Aragon trusts: “We have put in the work and have opened communication and dialogue with the Ministry of Industry to achieve what we all want. We hope it is visualized,” said President Azcón. An installation that would represent a definitive boost to the leading sector in exports and turnover in the Community.

Logistics is also growing by leaps and bounds in the territory. It currently represents 5.5% of the GDP but its companies include, for example, Inditex, which has been in the Zaragoza Logistics Platform for 20 years and continues to expand its facilities. A large part of Zara Women's textile business is logistically managed from Zaragoza and a few months ago the company's returns center began working. All of this means that there are currently almost 2,000 workers hired by the company in Aragon. This company is joined by other giants such as Amazon, Decathlon or Mercadona that have also opted for Plaza, considered by Communication Group C as the most innovative and best quality in the country. They are names that, together with the Aragonese business fabric, eminently familiar, make the territory a welcoming place for investors, companies and workers.
