Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric, one of the first fully electric family cars

The Blitz brand is present at this year's IAA Mobility Show (open until September 10 in Munich) with an exciting line-up of new products for visitors who come to its stand. These are three new cars that the German manufacturer is showing at home as a world premiere and before an international audience. The impressive Opel Experimental takes the lead, with a design concept that previews from a stylistic perspective what the Rüsselsheim-based manufacturer's next models and technologies will be like.

In addition, Opel is also presenting two models that will soon arrive at dealerships: the new Corsa Electric and the new Astra Sports Tourer Electric. The small car and the best seller in the compact class, both with emission-free propulsion, are the embodiment of the immediate future of the brand; two current solutions for sustainable and non-polluting mobility that are already a reality.

Like all Astra variants, the Astra Sports Tourer Electric not only impresses with its bold and clear design, but also with its responsible performance. Opel's new electric family claims driving free of local emissions but not devoid of dynamism and emotion. The electric motor delivers 115 kW / 156 HP and a powerful maximum torque of 270 Nm, available right out of the box, ensuring energetic starts and convincing acceleration.

And while many other electric cars are limited to 150 km/h or 160 km/h, the new Astra Sports Tourer Electric has a top speed of 170 km/h. Even with the rear seats up, the electrified estate variant of the Astra offers 516 liters of luggage space in the boot: with the seats folded, the capacity increases to 1,553 liters. And like its five-door sibling, the battery-powered station wagon benefits from a low curb weight. At just 1,760 kg, the Astra Sports Tourer Electric is significantly lighter than many of its competitors.

The new Astra Sports Tourer Electric is a compact and versatile model for a new era: electrified, digitalized and designed to transmit emotions but, at the same time, be sustainable. This is how the century-old German firm has combined its rich tradition in the compact segment with the latest propulsion innovations.

With dimensions of 4,642 x 1,860 x 1,480 mm (L x W x H) and a loading height of around 600 mm, the practical Astra Sports Tourer further reinforces Opel's leadership reputation in the estate segment and also shows the brand's usual talent to offer great loading possibilities with contained exterior measurements. Its total length is 60 mm shorter than that of the previous model thanks to a particularly short front overhang; despite a considerably longer wheelbase of 2,732 mm (70 mm), which is even 57 mm longer than that of the new five-door Astra.

Along with its five-door sibling, the new Astra Sports Tourer makes a true design statement, in this case as the first Opel estate to interpret the brand's “bold and pure” design philosophy. The new front of the brand, the Opel Vizor, adopts an elegant language, where the vertical and horizontal axes - the pronounced crease of the hood and the daytime lighting signature in the form of wings - intersect in the center with the Opel lightning bolt logo , the Blitz. At the back, Opel's new design language can be seen in the Blitz located in the center, the high brake light aligned vertically and the particularly slim taillights. The latter are identical to those of the five-door model, which further reinforces the Astra's family ties.

Inside there is also a big step forward. The Pure Panel's human-machine interface (HMI), the fully digitalized instrument cluster, offers customers a natural and intuitive experience. Its operation is carried out through an extra wide touch screen, like that of a smartphone. The presence of cables is also not necessary, since the new generation of multimedia infotainment and connectivity systems can connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly from compatible smartphones from the access version.

In addition to the emission-free version, the Astra Sports Tourer is available to order from August 1 with 110 and 130 HP gasoline and diesel engines, as well as a 180 HP plug-in hybrid version. Later, the dynamic GSe will join the family, with a 225 HP plug-in hybrid engine. The standard gearbox on the gasoline and diesel engines is a six-speed manual, while the eight-speed automatic transmission is offered as an option on the more powerful engines. The prices in our country of the variants with family bodywork of the Astra start at 25,000 euros. The price of the electric version has not yet been communicated.
