How to check the status of the Income refund 2023 - 2024

The Tax Agency expects to receive 23.2 million income tax returns until next July 1, when this year's Income and Wealth campaign ends, and estimates that the majority of taxpayers will have the right to a refund. In total, it expects to return 11,650 million euros, 1.8% less than last year, although the processing of this process can take up to six months.

One of the main doubts of citizens for whom the result of the declaration is negative - that is, that the Treasury owes them money - is when they will see the return reflected in their checking account. In this sense, the Tax Agency allows you to consult the file through the Draft/declaration processing service (Renta WEB).

It is true that, depending on the status of the file, one of the following messages may appear in the "Processing Status" section: "Your declaration is being processed", "Your declaration is being verified" or, for example, "Your declaration has been processed by the Tax Management bodies, and the refund requested by you is estimated accordingly."

Once the Treasury has carried out the appropriate checks, a date will be specified on which the refund will be issued. But if the return is still pending, it is recommended to access the file to check if it is within the system called "VERIFICA (Autocorrection of declarations)".

This is a system to correct income tax returns that present errors or incomplete information, with the intention of speeding up the process. This is how they explain it on their website: "Once inside 'VERIFICA', a screen will be displayed informing you of the existence of incidents in your return and a possible reduction in your refund. If the taxpayer continues to advance in the procedure , which you may interrupt if you prefer to opt for the traditional verification system, will conclude with the notification of a settlement proposal with the reduced refund."
