FCC earns 14% more thanks to the rebound in construction

FCC has registered a "high increase in activity" in the construction business in the first quarter of the year, to which it largely attributes the 14% improvement in its net profit, up to 96 million euros.

The Spanish construction company controlled by the Mexican magnate Carlos Slim entered 2,026 million euros until March, 21% more than in the same period of the previous year. Of this figure, the largest part, 1,109 million euros, correspond to Spain.

The improvement in income, he indicates, is due to the "sustained" increase in activity, but above all to the construction business, which experienced an increase of 55%, up to 564 million euros. It is the second main area of the group, behind the environment, which had a turnover of 912 million.

In construction, as in the cement division, the improvement in activity was accompanied by a moderation in energy costs. The construction company has also enjoyed in Spain a time frame that has allowed it to transfer cost increases in public tenders.

Spain contributes 249 million to its construction business and is its region with the most activity, but the group is positioning itself in the United States, where it tripled quarterly revenues, up to 166 million.

FCC's debt increased by 7% and stood at 3,417 million euros at the end of the first quarter, precisely due to the financing efforts for the development of construction projects. The group has a portfolio of projects in all areas valued at 42.73 million euros, 4.5% more than in the first quarter of 2022.
