Catalonia closes April with 33,000 more affiliates and 7,400 fewer unemployed

Positive April for employment in Catalonia. In the fourth month, 33,089 new affiliates were registered, up to a record of 3.76 million, according to data from the Ministry of Social Security published this Monday. Only the Balearic Islands (55,155 employed) and Andalusia (41,365 contributors) surpass it in job creation.

On the other hand, unemployment fell by 7,359 people, and the total number of unemployed stood at 337,030, according to the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy. It is the best April since 2008 and the best record since last September.

Catalonia was the third autonomous community where the number of unemployed fell the most, after Andalusia (-20,954) and the Community of Madrid (-8,044).

Regarding job creation, the trend is positive in almost the entire territory. Barcelona created 15,534 jobs (0.55% more month-on-month), Girona 9,579 jobs (2.71%) and Tarragona another 9,087 (2.70%). In Lleida, employment fell by 1,111 affiliates, 0.55% less in the month-on-month comparison.

Compared to the previous month, unemployment fell in the four Catalan provinces: 5,241 fewer unemployed were registered in Barcelona (-2.05% month-on-month), 1,048 in Tarragona (-2.6%), 703 in Girona (-2.3% ) and 367 in Lleida (-2.14%). Barcelona, ​​the most populated, remains the one with the most unemployed, with 250,666. Lleida is the one with the lowest number of unemployed, with 16,792.

By sex, women represent 57.41% of the unemployed in Catalonia, with 193,515 unemployed, while men represent 42.58%, with 143,515 unemployed. The trend of more female unemployment is something that is repeated in all provinces.
