Boat tourism on the rise

The pandemic put boat tourism in the crosshairs of many people who were looking for greater isolation when it came to enjoying their vacations, and since then, the sector has remained unstoppable, especially with regard to rental boats, whose share is already close to 38% of the total recreational boating market in Spain.

Despite the current economic situation, so far this year 1,766 boats have been registered for rental use out of a total of 4,674 registrations, a figure that doubles what was registered in the first quarter of this year (669) and which represents a growth of more than 10% compared to figures for 2022. The rest of the registered boats, those for private use, continue to be the largest contingent in the recreational nautical sector. So far this year, 2,908 new boats have been registered, according to the latest figures collected by the National Association of Nautical Companies (ANEN), especially jet skis and boats up to six meters in length.

These figures go hand in hand with the rise in Spain of recreational boats that are registered for use in the charter market, a market in which the Balearic Islands continue to lead the list of destinations this 2023 with 30% of the market share, followed by Catalonia (21%) and the Valencian Community (15%). Other provinces where more and more boats are rented are Gran Canaria, Ceuta, Cádiz, Tenerife, Tarragona and Cantabria.
