8 electric motorcycles that you can buy with the new state aid

There is no doubt that the aid that the different Executives have been promoting for the purchase of electric motorcycles have served to energize the sector and start the consolidation of this type of vehicle. It is equally unquestionable that the electricity segment is currently too fragmented, with an offer that is somewhat dispersed in some cases and proposals that are still looking for their place in the market.

A situation that explains why the new aid plan for the purchase of electric two-wheeled vehicles provided for in Royal Decree-Law 5/2023 excludes models of more than 10,000 euros.

In principle, with the measure, it is clearly a matter of circumscribing the aforementioned aid to strictly urban models that help to decongest and make the air in the urban centers of large capitals more breathable.

A measure that will be in force until December 31, 2024 and which is accompanied by the deduction of 15% of the price of the motorcycle from personal income tax (IRPF) to those who have purchased an electric motorcycle or scooter or installed a charging point in accordance with the conditions required in the aforementioned Decree-Law:

"New electric motorcycles (categories L3e, L4e and L5e) eligible for aid must have: lithium batteries, an electric motor with a power equal to or greater than 3 kW and a minimum range of 70 km."

The other main requirement for the tax deduction is that the vehicle may not be used for an economic activity.

The discrepancy, however, has come from the hand of the "National Association of Companies of the Two Wheels Sector" (Anesdor) which understands that the errors that the previous Plan Moves included by leaving out mopeds are being repeated. and electric motorcycles with more features, which are precisely those that allow extra-urban mobility.

An exclusion -according to the motorcyclist employers- that comes at a particularly delicate moment for the electric motorcycle market since the registrations of “zero emission” motorcycles fell by 35.6% in May compared to the same period in 2022.

In any case, there are still a large number of very interesting models that are included in the standard and that are more affordable and accessible than ever since -obviously- they can be driven with A1 and B licences.
