Xavi will lead Barcelona until 2025

Xavi Hernández and Joan Laporta found a space in their schedules, 24 hours before playing against Celta, and the coach has already signed his new contract. The Terrassa coach renews for one more season than he had already agreed upon (his contract ended on June 30, 2024) and will lead Barcelona until 2025.

“The truth is that I can think of few better plans (than signing this afternoon) but let's see if they give me an appointment,” Xavi said at midday, in his press conference. His wishes have been orders. Well, he has been able to sign and make official an agreement that was already closed, in the absence of a time and place for the signing. “The renovation has been done for days. We reached an agreement and it will be announced soon, I don't know when. But I already told you that from 0 to 10 this topic was 10”, he reassured.

The club had been looking to tie down its coach for a long time. The president already announced at the beginning of March that he had already considered extending the relationship with Xavi. While the Egarense always said that his continuity was not going to be a problem.

Finally, more for reasons of financial fair play than because of the will of both parties, the agreement is for one season, although it includes a clause by which it can be extended for one more season. If you win the League again or win the Champions League it will become effective automatically.

Xavi already has four years guaranteed in writing. If he fulfills them, it will be the same time that Pep Guardiola spent at the Camp Nou (2008-2012) and one more year than he coached the Luis Enrique club, for example.

The Terrassa coach made his debut on November 20, 2021 to replace Ronald Koeman. He left Qatari Al Sadd, his only experience, to take charge of the team. Since then he has directed 96 games, of which Barça has won 60, drawn 17 and lost 19. And most importantly: he has won a League and a Spanish Super Cup.
