With a bit of luck, except for Pineda's teacher who died at 34 and the three seriously injured in the same traffic accident, some thinking head in this Catalonia of taxes and beach bars will do something effective and urgent to end the scandal of the overpopulation of wild boars.
Apparently, the accident was due to the passage of one or some wild boars –perhaps mother boar and her laughing cubs, inadvisable for a good civet–. A year ago, at the same point, they caused another accident. And more information: the friendly mammal has caused a hundred accidents in the Maresme region in the last twelve months. Figures similar to those of many regions in the interior of Catalonia...
No one dares to argue that Catalonia has an overpopulation of wild boars, a fact that farmers and drivers endure and suffer. Instead, everyone has their plan—usually urban folks brought up in childish Disney values—to alleviate the ravages. Networks in the United States that cost an arm and a leg, more traffic signs –or limit speed at a slow pace!– and as many creative options as one can imagine, as long as they avoid the most logical one: kill –if they prefer, I write a euphemism and we sweeten the matter – the maximum number of wild boars in the minimum time, unless some more shocking accident is missing.
How about waiting for a school bus to skid off some country road and a half or a dozen cherubs to die?
Naturally, killing a mother boar and her cubs sounds fatal. Good people insult in the networks, where there will be no shortage of those who demand: "Let's not criminalize the wild boar!", and provide animal solutions while waiting for that great traffic accident with State funerals and a parade of Government authorities, the Generalitat, the Provincial Council, the Interregional Council, the City Council on duty and some Defender of something.
I already understand that poverty, homelessness and the future of RCD Espanyol cannot be eradicated in weeks. The overpopulation of wild boars, yes. And we are late, Walt Disney fans.
