The General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) goes further and recommends fastening the rear seat belts of the car even if there is no one in the back.

In this way, if we travel with luggage, fastening the rear seat belts will help prevent the packages that we carry in the rear storage compartment of the vehicle from entering the car in a hypothetical accident. "Seat belts can be fastened to prevent the trunk load from entering the vehicle in the event of a crash" advise from the DGT.
