Why do you vote weird?

You end up surrounding yourself with people who think or look like you. Affinities determine friendships and loves. You deal with those people with whom you make confidences or prefer for a coffee at work. People like us, who ends up being the whole world is like us. Then the elections arrive and one is perplexed because there is a herd of people who vote badly, who vote strangely.

In our real life, this dissociation happens in an impure way –sometimes you cannot avoid the one who votes weird in the form of a brother-in-law, for example–. Not so in our virtual life, where purification is radical. Blocking, silence, cornering or cruel mockery of everything we don't like to hear, think or know. Of those of whom we do not even want to know their existence. If we don't see them, we forget that they exist and that they tend to vote strangely in an election.

All of this leads us to believe that our gaze is a universal consensus. We go to books, series or films by authors who certify that our values are correct. Debates, stations and spokespersons who agree, endorse convictions and solutions to complex problems. But then, you know, democracy and its millions of entities that go and vote strangely.

Examples...? Fortunately, we all have wonderful Madrid friends who explain horrified what Ayuso does with his city. They are certainly wonderful friends from Madrid who – oh, surprise! – have to live with 1,586,985 Madrid citizens who vote strangely in their community.

More serious is the case of politicians in office who believe that people who vote weird do not exist. And, therefore, it is not necessary to know it, listen to it, win it over or question it, because that would mean that they live among us. A nuisance that makes it difficult for them to follow what is theirs at a friend's house or in a bar. Drinking, smoking and legislating, while they sing old songs from old wars that always end up being lost.
