The war correspondent of the Russian channel Izvestia, Semion Yeremin, died while reporting in the Ukrainian region of Zaporizhzhia, partially occupied by the Russian Army, according to the television on its website. Yeremin died on Friday afternoon after suffering an attack by a Ukrainian drone, according to Izvestia.
"He died as a result of injuries received after the launch of a drone. The journalist was carrying out his professional duties," the statement said. The media received Yeremin's latest report on Wednesday, which was published the next day on the Telegram channel.
Yeremin covered the fighting in Ukraine since the start of the Russian military campaign in February 2022, which included operations in Mariupol and Marinka, both in the Donetsk region.
The leader of the Donetsk People's Republic, Denis Pushilin, expressed his condolences over the death of the war reporter.
In July of last year, the war correspondent of the official Russian agency RIA Novosti Rostislav Zhuravliov also died in Zaporizhia, when the car in which he was traveling was attacked.
In the attack, which occurred when the car was between the town of Vasilievka and the town of Vladimirovka, three other Russian reporters were injured.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov assured on Friday that his country will not declare a truce even during future peace negotiations with Ukraine.
