Walter Benjamin's dreams in Girona

In the temporary exhibition hall of the Museum of Jewish History in Girona we can enjoy the exhibition Dreams by Walter Benjamin. Watercolors by Gemma Romero Goday until January 31. In Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia we have visited the sample.

As the artist explains, the works on display want to be a tribute to the figure of the German philosopher, based on a study of texts written by him about his dreams.

And so, with Gemma Romero Goday's watercolor painting technique, 21 plastic poems are illustrated with the corresponding text.

As explained in the presentation of the exhibition, "the extensive work of the German thinker also includes, in a scattered manner, notes, descriptions and references to his dream world."

Recurring images such as the moon, waves or women have inspired Gemma Romero Goday in the creation of these 20 works that make up the Somnis project. The artist mainly uses the watercolor technique, although in some works she combines it with collage.

The shadows, the night landscapes, some human figures and the almost always presence of the moon "make up this original artistic interpretation of a little-known part of the philosopher's legacy."
