In the heart of autumn, when the expectation of winter looms on the horizon, a meteorological whim gives the northern hemisphere a warm respite known as the Veranillo de San Martín.

This occasional phenomenon, which sometimes lasts up to a week, raises temperatures to summer levels, surprising those who prepare to receive the cold.

Typical of the Mediterranean, the Veranillo de San Martín manifests itself with a notable thermal rise, reaching up to 10 or 15 degrees above average. It is an ephemeral gift that invites you to take advantage of the last days of warmth before winter completely takes over.

This meteorological phenomenon is not only a pause in the change of season, but also an opportunity to enjoy nature. Outdoor activities such as walking through the forest, searching for mushrooms, contemplating fallen leaves and observing migratory birds find a perfect setting in this short period. We can see some of these autumn images in La Vanguardia's Readers' Photos captured in Els Gallecs in Mollet del Vallès.

The transition to autumn, with its days shortening and nights lengthening, marks a period of change. Temperatures begin to drop, and the climate takes on a cool and humid character.

This process also impacts the vegetation, transforming the landscape into a palette of colors as the leaves of the plants change and fall.

In this delicate balance between seasons, the Veranillo de San Martín stands as a reminder of the versatility of nature. A warm parenthesis that allows people to connect with the ephemeral beauty of autumn and enjoy those moments of calm before winter unfolds its cold mantle. At the moment, the good temperatures even invite us to return to the seashore, as in these images of the Platja del Cristall in Badalona.
