Uncivilians, the enemies of the Fallas and of València

It is a constant and, for this reason, it is surprising that we are not able to avoid it, despite the efforts of the institutions and security forces. Because once again this year, it is enough to take a walk through some streets in the neighborhoods of the center of València, especially late at night, to see how many there are those who believe that the city is a dumping ground for failures, and that we are not yet in the "fallera week". A garbage can in which to throw beer cans, remains of food and packaging, piss (some on historical monuments as was seen on Saturday in the Church of Santos Juanes), vomiting and even defecation in the shadows of dawn and with the excuse of the effects of alcohol or other substances. There are brainless people who even like to set fire to containers and even ancient trees (there are the burned palm trees), with serious risk of infecting buildings.

These are the true enemies of the Fallas, who are a very large group made up of all types of profiles: old and young and also children, men and women, tourists and non-tourists and even fallers and falleras who still do not understand what the Fallas are. , those who do not love Fallas who do not deserve to be falleros. They are, in the end, dirty men and women whose action invites people not to approach certain areas during these festive days and which generates deep despair in the neighbors, who have to endure these excesses for many days. In addition, they are places where explosions of violence between common people usually occur, with serious risk for Valencians who want to experience the festival in peace. It happens, and I have witnessed in recent years, that sometimes it must be the falleros themselves who must confront these uncivils to avoid greater evils.

The excuse that this happens in other popular festivals is not valid, because no festival in Spain reaches the dimension of the Fallas of Valencia. On the contrary, incivility is contagious, and those who hate the Fallas and despise the city know where to meet and release their bodily miseries, evading surveillance, which is always scarce. The last days of Fallas, the most attended, are usually the worst. It is enough to take a walk at night through neighborhoods like Russafa, El Carme or Velluters to be alarmed. But also in other peripheral neighborhoods, where the least police surveillance makes some and some believe that the city is theirs and theirs alone, with the license to smear it without mercy or to set up their particular "mascletaes" without respecting anything. Then they are surprised that there are neighbors who want to flee the city.

It is a constant, as has been said, and every year the City Council and the Government Delegation provide resources to control certain disorders, but things always happen, too many; The measures are always insufficient. It is true that incivility is always difficult to control, because it refers to education in values and respect, something that some are incapable of assimilating. But more forcefulness is needed with those who believe they can use the city as a dunghill with the excuse of this great event. València is harmed, and so are its Fallas, and its falleros and falleras, who must be the first to avoid this type of events. Valencia does not deserve it.
