Two people are rescued five miles from Barbate due to a new orca impact against their boat

Gladis is still active on the Cadiz coast. On this occasion, two people have been rescued this Monday early in the morning after receiving the boat in which they were traveling an impact of killer whales. The ship has been towed by Salvamar Enif to the Port of Barbate (Cádiz).

Maritime Rescue sources explained this Monday that the request for assistance was received after 7:00 a.m. Two crew members of a vessel notified the Maritime Rescue at that time that they had been hit by orcas.

The Salvamar Enif has moved five miles southwest of Barbate, where the vessel was stopped, since it has suffered "damage" from the impact of the killer whales. She has been towed to the Barbateño port. The crew members have not been injured.

On Thursday the 22nd, another interaction took place during the Ocean Race, in which several killer whales rammed the hulls and rudders of two participating sailboats as they passed through the Strait of Gibraltar.

The Strait of Gibraltar has recently been experiencing unusual attacks by Gladis, an orca that is actually a group of 15 and that has gone viral on networks for causing damage and incidents, and even sinking boats in the waters of Cádiz.

This phenomenon, although it is not really new because it has been observed since 2020, has recently been making the news in the media due to the number of interactions that are taking place in the area of the Strait of Gibraltar.

In addition, several orca shocks have been observed in areas completely removed from the normal route of the Gladis, as occurred a few weeks ago in the North Sea.
