Two brothers used their Torrevieja greengrocer as a cover to sell cocaine

The Civil Guard of Alicante has arrested two brothers, men, of Spanish nationality and residents of the town of Torrevieja, aged 40 and 46, for selling narcotic substances in the fruit shop they ran in the town of Alicante.

According to sources from the armed institute, it was the citizen collaboration that alerted the Civil Guard of the Main Post of Torrevieja, who received information about a strange deal in a local establishment.

Investigators began to monitor the greengrocer, run by two brothers and which, apparently, was closed to the general public, despite which there was a constant flow of customers. They would open and close the store without apparent cause, and customers would come and go without shopping bags. So the agents made some initial identifications and corroborated that when leaving the premises, the alleged clients were carrying narcotic substances. Transactions were carried out inside by one of the brothers, the younger, while the older appeared and disappeared frequently from the establishment. According to the Civil Guard, it was the leader of the gang.

Continuing with the investigation, the agents found out that the ringleader, in addition to attending the fruit shop, frequented various gambling halls in the town, managing to verify the sale of drugs in said premises as well.

The Civil Guard has also been able to verify the involvement of a third person, a Spanish man, also a 67-year-old resident of the town, who was in charge of monitoring the exterior of the greengrocer's and attracting customers in the gaming halls. .

On February 15, the agents of the Investigation Area, supported by the Torrevieja Citizen Security Unit and the canine handler of the Alicante Command with the drug detection dog, carried out the exploitation phase of the operation, carrying out two records, the arrest of the two brothers and the investigation of the third person involved, who are charged with the crimes of belonging to a criminal group, against public health for drug trafficking and smuggling.

During the search of the greengrocer, the Civil Guard located hidden drugs throughout the premises, finding numerous doses of cocaine and marijuana scattered throughout all kinds of nooks in the greengrocer, such as the cash register and even in a box of sweets that were found exposed for sale.

The searches, one in the ringleader's house, and the other in the fruit shop, have resulted in the intervention of 145 grams of cocaine, both in rock and in doses prepared for sale; 18 bags of 500 grams of illegal tobacco, which was chopped and without stamping; 2,800 euros divided into bills of various values; equipment for the processing and distribution of the drug; and a vehicle they used for criminal activity.

The proceedings, together with the detainees, have been placed at the disposal of the Investigating Court No. 1 of Torrevieja, which has ordered the admission of the two brothers to prison and precautionary measures for the person under investigation.
